the hardest words to say

Those words that
           fell  
                so
                     easily  
from your mouth, they were like a punch in the face.

A punch,
              given by your lips and felt by my heart.
A kiss,
           a kiss like an "I love you".
And you didn't quite understand why I
                       fell
back.

I think that was always your problem.
You were never aware of your own strength-

Scratch that-

Never aware of the power
          you had over   
                               me.

You smiled, that day
and you helped me up
and you laughed
while I cried.

While I grasped onto you for dear life.

Praying,
             all the while,
that you wouldn't say it again.
Because I knew
that I wouldn't say it
back.
